Statement of Intent

Call me a bit old fashioned, but for starting something new, such as this blog, I prefer to open with my intentions behind my actions.  This blog is intended as a space for me to just ramble on about those things I have an interest in and those things going on in my life that tie in to them.

I am a self described geek, per the definition given in this PHD strip, with an absurd number of related hobbies and interests.  Many of these things are part of the canon geek interests, such as painting minis and playing games like Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan.   Most of these interests will inevitably come up in this space sometime.
I like Roleplaying and war gaming, though seem to have less and less time to indulge in them as I get older.  I used to be into CCGs during the '90s, mainly Magic and Netrunner, but haven't played in ages.
I'm something of a classic console gamer, having grown up with the NES, Master System, TurboGrafx-16, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy and N64. The N64 was the last console I owned, and I have little interest in modern console gaming (certainly not enough to buy any) preferring now instead PC gaming, mostly in the area of indie games such as Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft.
I've grown a severe disconnect from TV over the past few years, finding most of it inane and boring, but do follow such shows as Mythbusters, Pawn Stars, CSI (much less so since William Petersen left) and House on an ongoing, if just occasional, basis.  I also watch a lot of anime, my rating of which can be viewed here.
I wrote my first computer program at 5, in TRS-80 BASIC, and my first simple game at 7.  I enjoy writing code, and will talk about it at length, but today it isn't the passion it was for me at 15 to 20.
My real overriding passion is cooking and brewing/food and alcohol.  Expect there to be a lot of this on here
